A Day at the Restore

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a discount home furnishing store meant to save families money and reduce waste.  The ReStore is located in an old rug factory at 2930 Jasper Street in the Kensington section of North Philadelphia.  A few blocks from the notoriously dangerous Somerset stop on the Market-Frankford line, the ReStore's purpose is to provide low income families with affordable home furnishing.  The store sells electronics, sinks, couches, gardening supplies, and just about anything else you can think of.  Open Wednesday through Saturday , staff at the ReStore are constantly receiving donations from businesses and private donors alike.  Additionally, the staff travels around the city on a daily business picking up donated goods from homeowners in their donated moving truck.  According to ReStore Warehouse Manager Mary Marfia, the ReStore's goal for their opening year is to raise enough money through sales to rehab a row home, a project that can cost up to 150,000 dollars.
